Ricardo’s Surprise

Earlier this week I got a chance to make a dream come true. I traveled to the Collegiate Institute for Math and Science in the Bronx to present Ricardo Alvarado with his letter of admission from NYU!  Ricardo had no idea I was coming and his counselor, Zee Santiago, did a great job of keeping it a secret.  So many of Ricardo’s friends showed up to congratulate him (hey, Lovejoy!).

Ricardo applied Early Decision to NYU and will participate in the Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) at NYU. HEOP provides students with academic support through non-credit classes, professional and peer tutoring and counseling that are designed to ensure student success at NYU. Through HEOP, Ricardo will receive a full-need financial aid package that can make attending NYU a reality.
I am so excited for Ricardo!  He is an outstanding young man and we are happy to have him join the NYU class of 2020!!

  • Omg. I hope I get into NYU too. I know how he feels to be first generation.

  • Seeing things like this come through for a fine young man such as Ricardo make my heart smile as well; to access probably the greatest education in one of the finest cities in the country, perhaps in the world speaks volumes. Finding out that this sort of benefit need not be limited to specific economic strata only makes this sheen cast its luster only brighter
    Warmest regards
